The Shimada brothers would cross paths once again, on the anniversary of Genji’s death. In time, Zenyatta became his mentor, and under the monk's tutelage, Genji came to see both his experiences and his cybernetic form as a gift and a unique strength. He drifted for many years before crossing paths with the omnic monk Zenyatta. For the second time, he abandoned his former life and wandered the world in search of meaning. But when Overwatch fell from grace, Genji felt increasingly at war with himself-all that had transpired between that fateful night in Hanamura and his life as an Overwatch agent. His efforts in both Havana and Singapore led Genji and his squad mates to successfully apprehend Doomfist, then the highest name on Overwatch’s most wanted list.

Overwatch leadership encouraged Genji to continue with agent training for the larger Overwatch strike team, and he graduated alongside Tracer and Winston. Fans will no doubt be happy to hear this, as players have widely criticized Overwatch 2's new free-to-play model since launch due to the hero shooter's high shop prices, low amounts of weekly earnable currency, and overall lack of play-focused rewards.Genji wasn’t sidelined for long, however. In a new blog post from Overwatch 2's Executive Producer Jared Neuss, it has been revealed that developer Blizzard has plans to improve the game's rewards and progression systems moving forward. Additionally, Neuss also teased an upcoming Season 2 nerf to Sojourn. Blizzard is also looking into improvements for Competitive matchmaking and queue times.In the far future, there are also plans to improve the Battle Pass and challenge system, while also introducing more 'play-focused progression systems.'.It's also committed to continuing Twitch Drops.
